Donald Mooney served in the United States Army for twenty-two years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1997. Following his military career, he returned to his alma mater, the San Marcos Baptist Academy, as Dean of Boys and Commandant of Cadets. It was during this time that a conversation with local businessmen sparked his vision to create a business that would make a lasting impact on his community and provide for his family.
In 2000, Donald founded NURSES Etc STAFFING (NES) to address the healthcare staffing needs in South Central Texas. He dedicated himself to meeting with healthcare companies, recruiting nurses and nursing assistants, and matching them with clients. Over time, NES has evolved into a family of companies serving a diverse client base, including the Department of Defense, and providing staffing solutions across a wide range of sectors, from healthcare to IT and logistics.
Throughout his career, Donald has received numerous accolades, including recognition as one of the Top 100 African American Business Leaders in America, Small Business of the Year by the Alamo City Chamber, and Minority Service Firm of the Year in Federal Contracting. His commitment to helping small businesses grow has been a cornerstone of his success. He mentors Small, Minority, and Woman-owned Business Enterprises (SMWBEs) through formal Mentor/Protégé programs and actively supports other SMWBEs in teaming capacities.
Donald is a proud graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, the Defense Language Institute, and the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth. He and his wife Narcissa have three adult children and one grandson. Their travels to Rwanda in 2014 to assist with relief efforts left a profound impact, leading them to sponsor two boys, contribute to building a classroom in a refugee camp, and support education and healthcare initiatives.
A strong believer in the importance of community service, Donald founded the DME Cares program, which supports various charitable initiatives, including the sponsorship of seventeen children from Rwanda. Through partnerships with organizations like United Way, Communities in Schools of San Antonio, and Project Cool, DME Cares actively demonstrates the company’s commitment to giving back. Donald has also implemented a program offering employees eight hours of paid time off annually for volunteering, emphasizing the importance of service alongside business success.
